Why is India important to cat conservation?

India has five species of cats: Tiger, Leopard,
Snow leopard, Clouded leopard, Marbled cat,
Leopard cat, Jungle cat, Caracal, Fishinbg cat,
and Rusty-spotted cat.  The geographic range
of all the small cats is very poorly known.  We
need to find Rusty-spotted cats where they
can be better studied to determine their
conservation needs.  Their skins show up in
markets.
