What are SCCA’s other priorities?
(a) Encourage other small cat projects by providing field expertise, financial and moral support
(b) Build local capacity for instance, by offering camera trap workshops
(c) Encourage cooperative, coordinated conservation efforts of colleagues
What actions will be implemented to achieve the goals for priority species?
(a) Establish a long-term monitoring presence in the foothills of the Andes and also on Chiloe
Island for Guignas by building and supporting a permanent monitoring station for colleagues
and students.
(b) Establish a long-term presence to monitor Andean cats in Chile and/or Bolivia.
(c-g) Camera trapping by SCCA and others to identify high value conservation areas for Bay
cat, Flat-headed cat, Marbled cat, Clouded leopard, and Fishing cat where they occur.
What actions will be implemented to achieve the goals for secondary priority species?
(a) Identify a partner to help locate priority areas for Rusty-spotted cat in Sri Lanka
(g) Camera trapping with colleagues in Kenya for Africa golden cat
(h) Support Yin Yufeng with his Chinese mountain cat study in China
(i) Support Alcides Rinaldi with his work on Margay in Brazil
Remember Never underestimate the presence that field researchers and local technicians have
on conservation activities. Capacity building creates conservationists.
